Notice:
If an attorney or litigant has concerns specific to Kitsap County and their determination of the need for parenting classes and/or co-parenting/divorce classes (in-person or online), they have an opportunity to bring that concern to their judge, who makes the final determination. Any request to deviate from the Court's order with respect to cases in Family Court Services would need to be considered on a case-by-case basis. Kitsap County Local Superior Court Rules (KCLFLR 10) require that parents involved in dissolution and/or legal separation actions (and certain paternity actions) who have minor children must attend mandatory parenting seminars. The Court will approve final parenting plans only after both parties have satisfactorily completed an approved parenting seminar The Superior Court has approved the following agencies to conduct the required seminars.
Parents are encouraged to attend a seminar as soon as possible. Parents are not required to attend the seminar together, but may do so if authorized by the provider.
Seminars may be attended in other counties and in other states as long as:
- The seminar is attended in person (on-line seminars or classes are NOT acceptable in Kitsap County), and
- The seminar is approved by that State or local court.
Each parent's certificate of attendance must be filed in advance of or filed with the Final Parenting Plan. For more information about KCLFLR 10, including seminar content requirements
Kitsap Local Rule - Parenting Seminars; Mandatory Attendance.
In all cases referred to in Section (a) above, and in those additional cases arising under Title 26 RCW where the Court makes a discretionary finding that a parenting seminar would be in the best interest of the children, both parents, and such other parties as the Court may direct, shall participate in, and successfully complete, an approved parenting seminar within 90 days after service of a petition on the responding parent. Successful completion shall be evidenced by a certificate of attendance filed with the Court by the provider agency.
